April 2007 Legislative Update

The bills to increase the sheriff’s fees are HB 641 and SB 1712.Several weeks ago the sheriff wanted to add an amendment to SB 1712 regarding criminal witness subpoenas and criminal summons, liens on residential property and injunctions all of which had no effect on us as process servers.  They had no sponsor for their request and since they joined in our bill it gave us a better chance of being approved.  Although some legislators know of us, they all know and like the sheriff.  Bob Levy reports that since we let the sheriff’s in to our bill as a favor to them our bill has new wings.  His final words today were “we’re looking better and better daily.”
